10 am Updates

The morning was going well when, just after 8am, his nurse Erin noticed that his heart rate was a little low. She said he very quickly decompensated after that. They immediately started chest compressions and, since his chest wall is open anyway, took off the bandage and started cardiac massage. They believe he had good blood flow to his brain the whole time they were ressuscitating (they have a monitor that detects cerebral blood flow specifically). Since he did not immediatly respond, they put him on ECMO. With ECMO, his blood is being pumped through his body by a pump that also oxygenates it. His heart is still beating and they are telling us doing a good job and adding to what the pump is doing. They can use this time on ECMO to "skinny him up" as Dr. Bichell put it. His blood is heparinized (blood thinner) so the possibility of bleeding is high, especially in sensitive places like his brain.

The Praises:
-EVerything happened at 8am when the night team and day team's were on the unit so there were 4 cardiologists, 3 critical care docs, multiple fellows and Dr. Bichell all at the bedside within minutes
-It was 18 minutes from the start of CPR to when he was fully on ECMO--a hospital record as far as they can tell
-Even now, they are seeing his heart pump and it is doing pretty good.
-Vickie up from the church here in Donelson quickly came over to the house and Zach was oblivious to the fact that Daddy and Nana quickly left him
-Our pastor, Eugene, was already driving to be with us when all of this unfolded
-You are reading this, you care about us and Luke

Our prayer:
Today we see how tenuous Luke's life is. While we are praying for a long life for him and life more abundant than all we can imagine, our peace is knowing that God has had all of this planned since the beginning. And while Luke's life hangs in balance, for all of us today could be our last day as well. GOd sent his own son to suffer in our place so that we--including baby Luke--would not have to endure eternal suffering. If you have never come to understand that miracle and mystery, please consider it today. In Romans it says that "while we (including Luke!) were yet sinners Christ died for us" and yet we are promised eternal life if we only believe that Christ paid the ultimate price for us. Justin and I cannot imagine enduring this if we did not believe that.

Tears are flowing. I don't even begin to know what to say, except that we are praying and checking constantly. You are always in our thoughts. We're praying for every tiny piece of Luke's body to be restored and healed and for God to be glorified in all of this.
grace and peace to you,

I do not have the words to express what I want to right now. My prayers are as constant as my human weakness allows. I am praying........at moments I am not sure of exact details....but I am praying and lifting the entire situation up to the glorious God that we serve. I am grateful for each breath Luke takes, for each tiny mark of progress, and for each miracle that is to come. I love you all

Dear Family and friends of the Millers,

I just received a phone call from Aunt Roberta.

She asked me to please send
this to everyone to ask you to please pray like you have never prayed before for little Luke.

Luke's condition has gotten worse during the day and
he really needs a desperate miracle!

He is not responding very well and his oxygen level is dropping.
His skin color is not good.

Please pray and believe for Luke's miracle.
and also pray for the Lord to give
even more strength to Holly and Justin and their entire family.

Please continue to check in with the Miller's website, as they
will blog as they are able to.

Aunt Roberta said that they are all just not able to get to the
computer right now, so she asked me to send this out on their
behalf.

thank you for praying.......!

May the words of this song bring you comfort as they have so often for me. Your faith is truly in action and is bringing such Glory to our Awesome Savior.

I know many may not understand the hope we have; the hope you are so clearly living out in this most difficult and heartbreaking circumstance. We are all certainly being pointed toward Christ through you.

Dear Holly & Justin,
We rejoice in the birth of Luke to your family, but we grieve that you are having to endure such a time as this. But we also know that the God of the mountains is also the God of the valleys, and He will sustain you and strengthen you in this valley.

"Dear Lord Jesus, surround Holly and Justin with your grace and mercy and peace. Our words are grossly inadequate, but please take these words, Lord, and bring life and health to Luke , his parents, and Zach. We ask this in the awesome and powerful name of the Great Physician, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

With our love,
